Don't judge a book by its cover...er, *ehm*, don't judge a restaurant by its décor. I'm not sure if it was the jungle-esque theme or the enticing prices on their platters, but I can tell you, I will not be eating at the Elephant Bar again. I've had the misfortune to experience this restaurant's disappointments twice now, thinking it might have deserved another chance, but this Elephant of a Bar does not live up to its standards.
First, the waiters/waitresses try to rush you out, hoping to keep filling their tables while the line stretches out the door. It makes you feel uneasy and it feels like your conversation is interrupted about once every 10 minutes. On the flip side, I needed a water refill for about 40 minutes during my most recent visit, and the waitress failed to return, and when she did it was "oh, right, your water!" I wasn't sure if I should stab myself with the utensils or just order another alcoholic beverage. I decided on neither. The drinks are not worth the price, the girly, flavored ones, anyway.
Both times, the food seemed dryer than it should be, as if it had been sitting beneath a heat lamp for some time. The chicken seemed to have no taste, neither did the egg pieces (this was part of a special promo cob salad and another promo chicken dish with watermelon, ribs, and corn). Neither plates were worth the price. However, I can say I liked dessert. I DO recommend, if you DO happen to venture into the unexpected terrain of this jungle, to try the Elephant Bar Mud Pie - just don't look at the calorie count!
