The weather outside is frightful but the lights are so delightful!Posted by: Crissa on Dec 10, 2008 |
As a kid and even still, I enjoy a good festive evening car ride of “Christmas light gawking.” Its nice to know that others share my same seasonal urge, which has influenced a variety of light displays over the greater St. Louis area. Two of the most popular (outside of church hosted events) light spectacles are in Jelly Stone Park (Eureka) and Tilles Park (St. Louis).
“Santa’s Magical Kingdom”, neighboring yet another St. Louis attraction – Six Flags, boasts a 35-acre enchanted winter glowing display. Some of their more popular light-up scenes are the ones depicting stories of how Angels learn to fly and the ever-so-charming candy cane factory; children love the magic of seeing all-white candy canes going in one end of the ‘striping factory’ and then coming out the other end as a peppermint cane twisted up in a ruby red ribbon. Another overwhelmingly favorite of yearly visitors is the engulfing tunnel of lights – football field in length! If you are looking for some wintry magic with friends and family, this is surely a place to drive through! If you have young children, a great option is to take the Santa Express Train through the displays or even a holiday hayride! Children can even get their picture taken with Santa and leave him a letter.
“Winter Wonderland,” on Litzsinger Road, is celebrating its 23rd year of the winter lights display magic that they bring to life. While they open a few days after “Santa’s Magical Kingdom” (Nov. 21st for Santa’s; Nov. 26th for Winter) and while they are closed on Christmas Eve (while Santa’s stays open until 10:30pm) they still put on a bright show! “Winter Wonderland” offers carriage rides which can be purchased in advance through MetroTix.com. Take a carriage ride or drive through the lollipop lined streets of this 'Winter Wonderland' and experience the timeless magic of gingerbread houses, reindeer, and elves!
Either park you choose to take your loved ones, friends or even just yourself to, wholesome seasonal fun is only a few strings of light away! “Santa’s Magical Kingdom” charges admission fees of $17 per family vehicle and “Winter Wonderland” takes admission fees of $9 per family vehicle.
