Why Pickup Lines Don't WorkPosted by: Michelle Fairbrother on Dec 6, 2008 |
When we see the ever-so-suave debonair gentleman in that old classic movie walk up to that hourglass misses he has had his eyes on for the past hour and blow her away with a smooth, well rehearsed pickup line, it often gives us, the generation of the 21st century, the wrong impression.
It makes the men of our time believe that these cheesy come hither lines that are overused and overrated will actually work, and even worse, makes us women have to suffer time and again listening to them and, in some cases, actually force ourselves to be polite in response to it.
The fact of the matter is, your basic, run of the mill, tacky pickup line just does not work.
Why? Well, there are a few different reasons that go to explain this. For one, if you are approaching a woman for the first time, your goal here is to impress her, not depress her.
By feeding her a line that has so obviously already been spewed to twenty other women before her, you are not letting her know that you are truly interested in her or that it was she who caught your eye, but rather that you are making a poor and quite sad attempt at attracting her with that lame line you rehearsed to yourself in front of the mirror five times before you left the house tonight.
Not to say that you are really not trying to put the effort in here, because that most likely is not the case at all. But you want the honest truth? Unless you are David Beckham in the flesh, you are going to have to get real and sweep a woman off her feet the only way that you can.
What do women love the most? Confidence - not to be confused of course, with cockiness.
Walk up to that woman you have been eyeing over your rye and ginger and tell her that you have been doing just that. Let her know that you find her attractive and that you would love to buy her next drink or sit and have a chat with her.
Honesty is always the best policy, and nothing will turn a woman on more than a man who knows just what he wants - her.
